The Alliance for Molecular PhotoElectrode Design for Solar Fuels (AMPED) has been awarded an additional two years of support from the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science, Office of Basic Energy Sciences.   The focus for 2018-2020 will be on the fundamental energy science underpinning photocatalytically active materials. Rather than targeting a specific cell design, a variety of individual photoelectrode architectures are being mechanistically examined using diverse solution and surface characterization techniques to provide an unparalleled depth in understanding of light-driven chemistry at material–molecule–electrolyte interfaces.
